The Future Is Already Here with Our New Dedicated Root Servers

Hetzner Online has simultaneously launched three new dedicated root server models which feature the high-tech Intel Xeon E3-1275 v5 Quad-Core Skylake CPU and high-performance 64 GB DDR4 ECC RAM.

These models have been revamped with different storage, so the dedicated root server PX61 has been modified with 2x4 TB SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 rpm Enterprise-class HDDs, and we have stashed the PX61-SSD with 2x480 GB Data Center Series SSDs.

For the first time, Hetzner Online has incorporated state-of-the-art 2x512 GB NVMe Gen3 x4 SSDs into a server, so you can get a piece of the future with our PX61-NVMe dedicated root server.

The full power of SSD storage is unnecessarily and greatly limited by conventional interfaces like SATA and SAS, especially in professional business environments. The NVMe specification is the solution – it enables SSDs to fully use their high levels of parallelism to rapidly process massive amounts of data.

NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) is a device interface specification specially designed for accessing non-volatile storage media via PCI Express (PCle). The connection via PCle Gen3 x4 not only provides a connection speed that is up to four times faster than conventional SATA interfaces but also takes advantage of much lower latency. Thanks to a high level of parallelism and very low power consumption, it is sure to meet your current and future storage needs.

To ensure that you have ample bandwidth, we supply all three servers with a 1 Gbit/s port and 30 TB of included traffic without limitation.

• We applied a fix on one of our VACs in RBX1. VACs are used to counter distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS).
• We started to work on adding a VAC in our Gravelines datacenter (GRA).
• We added cards on one of our routers in RBX6 in order to increase its capacity.
• We started to increase capacity on the network between our Gravelines datacenter (GRA) and our PoP in Frankfurt.
• The main coupled routers of our datacenter in Strasbourg (SBG) now have a capacity of 780 G.
• We have significantly increased our transfer capacity towards London by upgrading to 2x100G in total.
• We have been prodding a new ASR9904 and a Nexus 7706 on our PoP in Ashburn, USA.
• A new 100G link has been put into production between Miami and our PoP in Ashburn, USA.
• A new 100G link crossing the Atlantic has been put into production. It connects Skewjack (UK) to Northport (US)

Cloud & Dedicated

• It is now possible to add additional disks to a VPS Cloud or a VPS SSD.
• While ordering, it is now possible to choose automatic renewal for your VPS. For existing VPSs, you can enable this functionality in the billing section.
• A new version of the GAME anti-DDoS has been deployed. See a complete report on the Game anti-DDoS and an interview with Octave Klaba on that topic.
• The MRTG monitoring graph is now available in the control panel. It allows real time monitoring of vRack traffic on dedicated servers.

Un nouveau lien 100G sous l'Atlantique pour les clients d'OVH

Pour prendre en charge un trafic sans cesse croissant, l'équipe réseau d'OVH a mis en production mardi 15 mars un nouveau lien sous l'Atlantique. Partant de Skewjack au Royaume-Uni, il rejoint Northport, aux États-Unis en empruntant le câble sous-marin FLAG Atlantic-1.

Chaque jour, plus de 12 pétabits (plus d'une dizaine de milliers de térabits) de données transitent sous l'Atlantique par le réseau détenu en propre par OVH. Développé progressivement, ce réseau débouche depuis plusieurs années sur de nombreux points de présence aux États-Unis et relie les datacentres d'Amérique du Nord aux 14 autres datacentres européens du groupe. En septembre 2015, Laurent Allard a annoncé lors de l'OVH Summit la construction de nouveaux datacentres à travers le monde, dont deux aux États-Unis, situés respectivement sur la côte Est et Ouest du pays. C'est pour soutenir cette hausse de trafic continue que de nouveaux liens sont mis en place entre le continent européen et l'Amérique du Nord.

Pour Antoine Guenet, membre de l'équipe Network d'OVH, la mise en production de ce lien transatlantique représente un progrès pour les clients du groupe. Avec une latence de 67 ms aller/retour, ce nouveau lien permet d'échanger plus rapidement un plus grand nombre d'informations et offre la possibilité à OVH d'envoyer au plus près des opérateurs locaux le trafic de ses clients. Le groupe a ainsi signé des accords avec des opérateurs américains tels que Comcast, Cox, Bell ou Videotron pour une interconnexion directe avec son propre réseau.

Des fibres reliaient déjà les deux continents depuis plusieurs années, mais OVH a passé ce 15 mars 2016 un nouveau cap en mettant en production un nouveau lien 100G reliant le Royaume-Uni aux États-Unis. Passant sous l'Atlantique, ce câble peut faire transiter jusqu'à 100G de données chaque seconde. Dans les semaines qui viennent, ce seront plusieurs nouveaux liens 100G qui seront mis en place, faisant ainsi passer la capacité globale du réseau transatlantique à 6x100G.
